– The lightning bolt has become a symbol of the Poland protests against the country’s restrictive abortion laws, with marchers painting it on their faces, hands, and posters, and spray-painting it on walls and sidewalks. “They could all go on the street and I couldn’t be there so I’m baking them bread and I will sell it in support of them,” says Warsaw baker Asia Olejniczak, who has found a high demand for her lightning-themed loaves of bread. Olejniczak isn’t the only one supporting the protesters: The owners of the Polish Lukullus pastry chain are selling lightning-themed Napoleon desserts, with icing sugar lightning bolts stenciled on top. “They’re taking away the rights of women to decide for themselves, they are denying minorities their humanity, they’re doing it officially,” one of the owners tells Reuters. “What will happen next? They’ll stop us for running our business because of our sexual orientation or because we don’t go to church?”
