– French authorities have identified the man who beheaded a woman and stabbed two other people in a church in Nice on Thursday as 17-year-old Brahim Aouissaoui, a French-Tunisian born in 1999, the AP reports. Aouissaoui was shot and wounded by police after the attack on the Notre-Dame church, which killed a 55-year-old woman, a 60-year-old woman, and a 44-year-old woman. Aouissaoui’s family in Tunisia says he had arrived in Europe on Sept. 20 on the Italian island of Lampedusa, which is a main landing point for migrants from Africa. Aouissaoui’s sister, Afef, tells Reuters that he “respects all other people and accepted their differences even since he was a child.” French President Emmanuel Macron, who visited the hospital where Aouissaoui is in critical condition, says France has been “attacked over our values, for our taste for freedom, for the ability on our soil to have freedom of belief,” the AP reports. “We will not give any ground,” he said. France’s interior minister says more attacks are likely and the country is in a war against Islamist ideology, Reuters reports. “We are in a war against an enemy that is both inside and outside,” he said. “We need to understand that there have been and there will be other events such as these terrible attacks.”
