⁍ Canada is increasing its immigration targets after a significant decline in new permanent residents in 2020 due to COVID-19.

⁍ The country will look at broadening and accelerating the pathway for immigrants already living in the country to obtain permanent residency.

– Canada plans to ramp up its intake of immigrants—especially from Africa—in an effort to boost the country’s economy and fill job shortages in some sectors, Reuters reports. The country plans to bring in 100,000 new immigrants this year, up from its previous goal of 80,000. The new goal is to bring in 250,000 immigrants by the end of 2019.
